Born in Toruń, 1975; studied under Assistant Professor Kazimierz Rochecki at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń; received his diploma in Painting in 2000. In his artistic activity he is focused on works of installation art, found object art, video and paintings. He builds his own set of electronic equipment for use in his works of art. Andrzej Wasilewski works in collaboration with Dorota Chilińska and Maria Wasilewska. Recipient of scholarships from the Ministry of Culture (2005) and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2007). Winner of the Award of the Vice-Chairman of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław and the Award of the Marshal of Lower Silesia Province in the 7th Eugeniusz Geppert Competition (Wrocław, 2005), the Award of Galeria Krytyktów Pokaz (Warsaw, 2005), the Grand Prize of the Marshal of Pomeranian Province at “Transvizualia 007” held in Gdynia (2007) and an honorary mention from the Artluk magazine at the 22nd Festival of Polish Contemporary Painting in Szczecin (2008). His art is fully autonomous and its main characteristics are omni-perception and criticism shown in relation to contemporary reality. Its distinctive feature is the use of technology as a means of artistic expression (systems consisting of dozens of cables, monitors, displays and mechanical devices) to convey humanistic messages with moralizing rhetoric on political, social, environmental or catastrophic themes.
