Born in 1911 in Zbarazh and died in Bystra in 1975; graduated from the Gymnasium of Humanities at the Faculty of Decorative Arts and Crafts of the State Technical School in Lviv and the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw; studied under Prof Stanisław Szczepański and obtained his diploma in Painting in 1955. He was an oil and watercolour painter and graphic artist. During the occupation he lived in Warsaw where he taught graphic art and lettering. In 1945 he settled in Bielsko. He worked as an art lecturer at the State Institute of Handicrafts in Bielsko and the Teachers’ College of Biała. From 1951 until his retirement he worked at Bielsko-Biała’s State High School of Visual Art (from 1969 as its Head). He collaborated with the Twórczość Artists and Folk Craftsmen’ Cooperative and Bielsko-Biała’s Animated Film Studio. The subjects of his works were landscapes, figurative scenes and portraits. In the 1960s he also designed and made decorations that were placed inside and outside public buildings. He also organized and promoted travelling exhibitions. He was a co-founder of the Beskid Group. He participated in its exhibitions and other numerous exhibitions in both Poland and other countries. Recipient of many awards and decorations including the Cross of Valour (1964), the Golden Badge of Merit of Katowice Province (1966), the Partisan Cross, the Medal of Victory and Freedom 1945 (1975) and the Warsaw 1939-1945 Medal. He received an honorary mention for lifetime achievement during the 1975 “Bielska Jesień” Festival.
