Ewa Ciepielewska – painter, performer and activist.

She was born on October 1, 1960 in Walbrzych. In 1984 she graduated from painting at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, in the studio of Prof. Konrad Jarodzki.

In 1982, together with Bożena Grzyb-Jarodzka and Paweł Jarodzki, she co-founded the LUXUS art group – one of the key art groups of the 1980s in Poland. Over the years, she participated in dozens of the formation's exhibitions, and co-founded LUXUS Magazine and other publications of the group. In the second half of the 1990s, she established the Volans association to support young art.

She combines her artistic activities with pro-environmental and political actions. In addition to painting, she also creates committed happenings, murals and outdoor actions. She is a member of the Save the Rivers Coalition. Since the beginning of the 21st century, she has had strong ties to the Vistula River, resulting in the Flow/Flow project (since 2015), which sought to care for the water environment through art. The project included residencies on the Vistula for artists, curators and activists. The results were presented in exhibitions at the Berlin Hamburger Bahnhof (2018) and Alter Hafen in Berlin (2017), and the Gdansk City Gallery (2016, 2018), among others.

Her works have appeared in solo and group exhibitions at, among others, the National Museum in Gdansk, the Laznia Center for Contemporary Art, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, the Zachęta National Gallery of Art, the Ujazdowski Castle Center for Contemporary Art and Strykejernet in Oslo. Ewa Ciepielewska's works are part of the collections of the National Museums in Warsaw, Wroclaw and Krakow, as well as in the Jerke Museum in Recklinghausen.
