The other shoulders of the women disappear outside the canvas edges. Either woman is wearing her hair slicked back and has a black bushy moustache over the mouth. The tip of the black cap of the woman on the right is cut off, disappearing over the upper edge of the canvas. The underside of the peak is yellow. The front of the cap has a white logo of Lee. The woman is facing the viewer. The right side of her face is well lit, while the left side is shrouded in half-light. Almond-shaped dark green eyes, long nose. Mauve lips under the moustache joined together with a straight line. Strong brush strokes showing the woman's veins and wrinkles. The other woman has a white cap with black sides. Black decorative tacks on the white peak. The front of the cap is adorned with an English flag and the inscription "England" above it. Her oval well lit face is facing the viewer. She has blue eyes, flushed nose and cheeks and pimples on the chin. She is pursing her thin pale pink lips. The portrait adheres to a realist convention and mimics a photograph.
