Audio description

Against a brown-black background is the bust of a woman dressed in a wide black robe, and a fancifully draped, bodily-beige cloth in place of the head. A pair of hands, with the right one folded on top of the left, emerge from the black sleeves, partially cut off below the lower edge of the canvas. Strong chiaroscuro highlights the gold of the wedding ring on the top hand. The bottom edge of the hand is fuzzy gray. The bodily beige cloth folds itself into a semicircle in the lower part of the face, with two black holes - a triangular one in place of the mouth, and an almond-shaped one where the right eye should be. The folded swathes of beige fabric are streaming down the sides over the shoulders. The black collar is slightly spread apart, revealing the bodily beige neck. The thick folds of the robe accentuate the woman's breasts. On the wide, puffed sleeve on the left there are reflections of light and strong shadows, outlining numerous small folds. The other sleeve is cut off by the right edge of the canvas. The painting adheres to a realistic convention. The artist alludes to an existing portrait by Rogier van der Weyden, a fifteenth-century Dutch artist whose work mixes Gothic and Renaissance art. The work was awarded the Grand Prix at the 41st Biennale of Painting "Bielska Jesień" in 2013.
