Galeria Bielska BWA in Bielsko-Biała is one of Poland’s foremost galleries of contemporary art. Its activities embrace a full spectrum of art genres, including both traditional art, such as painting, sculpture, print and drawing, and the more modern aspects of creative developments represented by video, performance, installation, photography and design.
The gallery exhibits the works of both accomplished and budding Polish artists, as well as showing the achievements of major international artists. Other activities include the organisation of artistic events in public spaces – some ephemeral, such as artistic residences, others leaving permanent changes to the cityscape in the form of sculptures and murals.
The gallery hosts a national painting competition which started in 1962 and is currently known as the “Bielska Jesień” Painting Biennial, as well as organizing a curatorial contest for the best exhibition of contemporary Polish painting.
Apart from promoting contemporary art, we are also active in educational activities covering visual arts, and propagating theories of art which are available in our own publications, data base and a collection of art books. Our collection of contemporary artworks covers more than 650 paintings, prints, photographs and sculptures. The Art Collection of Galeria Bielska BWA is made available to visitors, often in locations other than the gallery building, and also on our web site.
The project is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage
