Born on 04.06.1949 in Wrocław. Died on 29.07.2015 in Gdańsk. He studied in the Faculty of Painting and Sculpture at the State School of Fine Arts in Gdańsk (today’s Academy of Fine Arts). He graduated in 1973, in the painting studio of Prof Jacek Żuławski and in the graphic design studio of Prof Witold Jankowski. He worked as a lecturer at his alma mater, he was the professor in the Institute of Intermedia at the Faculty of Sculpture of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk.
In the 70’s he was working mainly in the area of painting, drawing and photography, connected with the conceptualist movement in Gdańsk. In 1978–1980, together with Adam Haras and Jerzy Ostrogórski, he founded and managed the multimedia gallery AUT in Gdańsk, and the OUT gallery in Sopot. In 1980’s he was interested in multimedia and performance art. At the turn of 80’s and 90’s he educated a group of artists whose work consists a phenomenon called by the critics the New Gdańsk School. In the last decade he created mainly video installations and digital movies, sometimes completed with photographs. He continued, with some breaks) his cycle 'Rysunki czarne' (The Black drawings) since 1982 till the end of his life. The cycle was the artist’s journal of states and emotions felt in certain moments. The works were his 'liberating exercises'. They were created by means of various tools: pencil, drawing pen, felt pen, ball-pen.
He took part in over 100 collective and about 20 individual exhibitions. His works can be found in many collections, including the National Museum in Warsaw and Gdańsk, the Museum of Art in Łódź, as well as private collections, among others, by Wolf Vostell, Jurgen Blum-Kwiatkowski.
