Kasia Kmita was born in 1972 in Nowa Ruda. She studied at the Faculty of Painting and Sculpture of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. She obtained her diploma in painting in 1996.
She lives and works in Wrocław.
In 1996 she received the Award of the Minister of Culture and Art ‘Promotions `96’. In 1998 she received the Award of the Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław in the Eugeniusz Geppert Competition.
In 2006, for a series of works combining elements of Polish folklore and pop culture, she was awarded at the Young Art Biennale ‘Rybie Oko’. Awarded a distinction by the magazine ‘Łossskot’ for the most interesting cultural figures of 2007. Twice a scholarship holder of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2011, 2017).
In her work, she uses the meticulously refined cut-out form. In her colourful compositions, the artist includes observations on contemporary culture, trends and lifestyles. She carefully observes the transformations taking place in society, and analyses the desires and mechanisms governing human behaviour and psyche.
