Kokoryna’s paintings represent a rare combination of synthesis and expression. Their subjects are musicians, both those whom he has met in person, and those whom he has only known by listening to their CDs, as well as musical instruments, collections of bottles, and animals. The artist’s flourishing brush strokes, bold splashes, and black outlines lend a characteristic weight to his pictures. They evoke a homely atmosphere and warmth, and contain what he considers to be most important in pictures, namely, colour, texture, and wit. Painted with a visible sense of freedom and flair, they cause the viewer to experience joy and extraordinary tenderness.
