Winner of the Silver Medal and the Bielski Governor's Award in the XXXIIIrd National Painting Exhibition Bielska Jesień '97 (1997), winner of the jury's award for works made in a duo with Joanna Janiak in the 40th edition of Bielska Jesień in 2011, as well as finalist of the 44th edition of the biennial in 2019.
Born in 1951 in Mieszkowo near Jarocin. Graduate of the State Higher School of Visual Arts in Poznań (now the University of Arts); diploma in painting under Prof. Stanisław Teisseyre (1978). Full professor. In 2010–2014 he was the head of the Chair of Painting at the Faculty of Painting and New Media of the Academy of Art in Szczecin. In 2014–2017 he ran the Painting Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. Currently he runs X Painting Studio at Division of Art Education and Curatorship at the University of Arts in Poznań and at Collegium da Vinci in Poznań.
Winner of many awards and distinctions, including 2nd prize in the 33rd National Exhibition of Bielska Jesień '97 Painting organized by the BWA Bielska Gallery (1997) and a statutory distinction (together with Joanna Janiak) in the 40th edition of this exhibition (2011); he also participated in the 44th edition of Bielska Jesień 2019 at the BWA Bielska Gallery in Bielsko-Biała, where in February 2020 he also presented an individual exhibition titled 'Piotr C. Kowalski and Others – VERY GOOD EXHIBITION OF NOTHING GOOD Beavers and more'. Since 2004, together with Joanna Janiak, he has been working on the series 'Megabytes of Painting' and 'Frosty Paintings'.
