Born in Warsaw, 1951. He graduated from the Film School in Łódź in the Cinematography and Television Production Department (diploma in 1975). Lecturer in the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and in the Film School in Łódź. He is a member of the Polish Filmmakers Association and the Polish Photographers Association. Since 1980, a member (co-founder) of the Film Form Workshop. Since 1970 creates experimental films, video art, photography and artistic activities using other disciplines of art, culture and related sciences (philosophy, cybernetics, poetry, sociology, etc.). He also deals with theory as well as poetry. Considered a key figure of the polish neo-avant-garde of 1970s. Awarded 150 Years of Polish Photography medal . Between 1975 and 1976 he worked as a director in Educational Film Studio in Łódź, between 1976 and 1977 as an operator in Documentary and Feature Film Production Company in Warsaw, and as a light production designer for Polish Television. The most notable of his artistic works include: Face (1971) – famous film criticizing the regime of W. Gomułka and ridiculing the persona; 1,2,3 – Operator Exercise (1972) – experimental and political film; Niechcice (1973) – film produced for Niechcice State Agricultural Farm; The Poem About Awareness (1977) – film featuring secondary school graduation youth; Encounters With Light (1991) – a photographic cycle. In 2010, the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw presented “Light – Love – Peace” exhibition presenting Paweł Kwiek as an extraordinary man, artist and thinker, touching upon the basic existential issues, such as being, goodness, beauty, love.
