Born in Smorgonie in the Vilnius region of Lithuania in 1943 and died in Bielsko-Biała in 1988. From 1962 to 1968 he studied under Professor Stefan Wegner, Lech Kunka and Antoni Starczewski at the Faculty of Textiles of the National University of Fine Arts in Łódz, from which he graduated in 1968. A painter and graphic artist. Between 1968 and 1975 he worked as an art teacher at the State School of Visual Arts in Bielsko-Biała. He later worked on the editorial board of “Kronika Beskidzka” at Bielsko-Biała’s Provincial Cultural Centre and at the Regional Public Library as a graphic designer creating satirical drawings and designs for posters, advertisements and medals. Recipient of many awards at such events as the “Bielska Jesień” Polish National Exhibition of Painting (Zygmunt Gajdzik Prize /1969/, Bronze Medal and Award of the Minister of Culture and Art /1970 and 1974/) and exhibitions organized by the Katowice Branch of the Polish Association of Visual Artists (honorary mention /1969/, award in the graphic design category /1970/). He participated in many exhibitions including six “Bielska Jesień” exhibitions (1969-1974), many exhibitions organized by the Bielsko artistic communities, the Katowice Branch of the Association of Visual Artists as well as many national and international exhibitions (Czechoslovakia, East Germany and Hungary). He showed his solo exhibitions in Bielsko-Biała (1971), Żywiec (1973), Szczecin (1973), Rzeszów (1974) and Katowice (1975 and 1981). His pictures are full of symbols and surprising shapes and show metaphysical images bordering on surrealism. He followed the example of old masters and used the time-consuming technique of glaze painting. He used deep cold colours to accentuate and bring to the foreground the effects of diffusion and refraction of light showing through the scumble. Although his works show perfect technique they do not immediately reveal their meanings but rather encourage the viewer to contemplate and re-examine them.
