Winner of the Grand Prix at the 47th Painting Biennale Bielska Jesień 2025 and recipient of a special mention at the 46th Painting Biennale Bielska Jesień 2023.
Małgorzata Mycek – a non-binary and transgender person (who uses both masculine and feminine forms, often referred to as an artist) – as born in 1993 in Sanok and raised in the small village of Radoszyce in the Podkarpacie region, to which she returned years later. A graduate of the Painting Department at the University of Arts in Poznań (Master’s degree in 2020), and currently a student at the University of Folk Art and Crafts in Wola Sękowa.
She co-founded the initiative Bomba Publishing House, which publishes socially engaged zines. Bomba was awarded in the nationwide Young Wolves competition in 2019.
Finalist in the following competitions: the Maria Dokowicz Award for the best thesis and the 19th edition of the Hestia Artistic Journey competition (2020). Recipient of an honorable mention in the Allegro Prize competition (2021). In 2023, she received a special mention at the 46th Bielska Jesień Painting Biennial, and in 2025 she won the Grand Prix at the 47th edition of the competition.
She works in painting and performance. In her artistic practice, she explores the theme of the periphery, which in mainstream discourse is romanticized and stripped of many aspects of rural life, such as deeply rooted sexism.
Małgorzata Mycek’s projects reflect an interest in vernacular culture and queer theory, as well as a commitment to current political issues.
